Taking measurements

Hi all,

Sorry I took a little hiatus from writing.  I had the flu. Okay, so as usual I went to my weight watchers meeting last Saturday. And as usual here it was week numero 10 of the damn plateau. So I decided not to be discouraged and went to the 99 cents store to do something I should have done on November 1, 2006. What was that? Glad you asked. Well I bought a tape measure and TOOK MY DAMN MEASUREMENTS.

Taking measurements is far more important than being a “scale ho”. You know what a scale ho is right? Those are the folks that get up in the morning having showered and freshly peed running to the scale to see how much weight they lost after one night of seriously sleeping. They feel that perhaps turning over in the bed countless times during the night would equate to exercise and that by daylight they would have lost 2 pounds right? Yeah I know I’m reaching here BUT the scale can depress, disgust, deject and dispirit you right on out of a weight loss effort. Especially if you are on a plateau. I mean how many times can you change your eating habits and your work out regimen right? Sometimes the scale just doesn’t move.

And as I mentioned earlier, I found myself rather encouraged enough to go get a tape measure and measured every part of my body short of my throat and hair! I dated it in my notepad. So let’s just say in one month I’ll take my measurements and if those same scale numbers are still waving  to me “hey girl how u doing?” but the measurements are different then guess who has a victory? Moi! Motivation folks…..keep  it going. Take your measurements. Until next time. Smooches

Plateaus

Sometimes I just wish a weight loss plateau was a tangible noun! A person, place or thing. Why? because I’d KILL IT! Kill it dead. I mean I’d do some serious time or at least be called in to testify as to what happened to it. Perhaps I’d feel better. But nooooooooooooooo! A plateau is a motivational assassin. It tends to happen as you have reached a peak. And then that peak turns into something stationary. Stagnant even. Then it goes from stagnant to you getting on the scale and those same numbers that you  saw NINE weeks ago are waving up to you saying “hay, hi u doing?” At this point you just want to punch the plateau in the side of its throat.

However, since our trusty friend “plateau” appears from time to time, this is when we have to change up. I know and I know some more that you’ve heard this before, BUT you have to change up.  So when you reach a plateau you have to do a couple of things.

Thing 1 – revisit your eating habits. Perhaps knock off some carbs and replace with protein. Drink more water. It can’t hurt unless it’s 2:38 in the morning and you’re seeing more of your porcelain hero i.e. toilet instead of your bed. Water, water, water.

Thing 2 -we love it. But EXERCISE. I know that 8 letter word that you try to get around and out of. I know I’ve had to start incorporating more weight lifting. More cardio. More, more and damn more.

Thing 3 – People kill me with this one but you may hear that incessant DON’T GET DISCOURAGED MALARKEY! Well I’ll put it like this. Don’t let your discouragement keep you from keeping on!! How’bout that?

So for those of us who manage to hit those plateaus, get near a punching bag and box away your frustrations. If you pretend that the punching bag is a plateau, just beat the hell out of it. You’ll also be working out more. Till next time. Happy health!
